Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
