No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
