Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts around the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
