Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
