NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
