Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
