Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
