Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
