Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
