Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve final game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value.
